Performance Programmes

Dance Performance Programme

Attention focuses on: Performance dynamics including introverted and extroverted expression and communication, projection, emotional authenticity and appropriate performance quality for stage and film. Dancers will also focus on working in an ensemble and sharing goals and achievements.

Performance Foundation and Performance Development classes will take the form of a contemporary class. Participation in the class fulfils extra class requirements for RAD ballet exams but is also open to all students. Dancers will perform in the community performance in December and will be featured in our year end show.

Advanced Performance Ensemble is open to students taking Advanced RAD ballet exam classes and Advanced jazz. Dancers are encouraged to enrol in the performance program and will form the Advanced Performance Ensemble. Advanced performance students will be trained to a pre-professional level. Dancers from other studios will be considered by audition into the programme.

Dancers meet one time per week to develop a programme for performance. In term 1, they will work on a new piece that will be part one in a suite of dances developed over the course of the year. The Advanced Performance ensemble will perform at our community performance in December and will participate in a video production of the ensemble piece at the end of year.  The Advanced Performance Ensemble will have opportunities for participation in regional, national and international dance festivals.

Musical Theatre

Attention focuses on: Improvisation, acting styles and techniques, vocal training, stage movement, musical theatre songs and choreography.

When we say Musical Theatre, WE MEAN IT!!

In our first term, students will be introduced to the various skills required for music theatre including acting, singing and dancing. Participants will learn songs, work on scenes and characterization and will be taught choreography in the music theatre style.  The term will culmintate in a presentation for family and friends. Term two will further students development with the selection of a show and work will begin on musical numbers and scenes.  At the end of our third and final term, students will perform the musical production!

Through the use of various theatre “games” and exercises students will develop invaluable life skills such as: Working in a group, self-reflection, critical thinking, creativity, confidence, self-expression, presentation and communication.

We have danced at the Dance Center since the Grimsby location opened.  As a family we have participated in dance classes (ballet, jazz, tap) even including adult classes.  My two girls have also participated in the musical theatre program over the last year.

We find all the teachers at the Dance Center to be supportive, caring and very friendly.  They have brought two shy girls out of their shell to be more confident in all areas of their lives, including participating more in school.
The musical theatre program in particular has taught them to be brave and to handle pressure and nerves.
We highly recommend the Dance Center Grimsby to everyone.
