Gema Zamprogna
Gema is a registered teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and has been teaching dance to students of all ages, levels and abilities for over 30 years. Gema is also a skilled choreographer specializing in jazz and musical theatre. Gema performed extensively on stage, screen and radio in Canada and the US since the age of 9, beginning her training with dance at the age of 2. Proudly born and raised in Hamilton Ontario, Gema watched as her parents Lou and Pauline Zamprogna taught, nurtured and created a love of dance and performance in their students at The Dance Centre and the Theatre Aquarius Performing Arts Programme where Gema taught and choreographed for their musical productions before running the Zamarts Performing Arts Programme alongside her sister Amanda from 2017-2019, directing and producing full scale musical productions.
Over the past 30 years Gema has taught hundreds of students, many who have gone on to successful professional careers in the performing arts and many others who have applied the hard work and dedication they learned at the Dance Centre to other professional careers.
In addition to her dance and performing arts background Gema is also a STOTT certified Pilates instructor and formerly ran an award-winning Pilates studio in Burligton from 2003 to 2011. She possesses deep knowledge of the body and a keen eye for the proper execution of movement; understanding the importance of correct posture, weight placement and muscular development for optimal strength, agility and injury prevention.
Gema would like to believe that she is now best known as the person who runs the very best dance studio in Grimsby! —but knows she is still likely best known for her portrayal of the role of “Felicity” on the popular television series The Road to Avonlea.
Gema fondly embraces her “past life” and not a day goes by where she doesn’t acknowledge that involvement in the performing arts is where she learned the value of hard work and dedication and the personal reward that comes along with them. These are lessons she sensitively imparts on her students in each and every class.
